Skills Recognition
What is skills recognition? This recognition process is referred to as Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or Recognition of Current Competency (RCC) and should be available to anyone enrolling in a Qualification. All Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) are required to have skills recognition processes. Skills recognition should also be available to those not enrolling in a full training course. How are skills recognised? The skills recognition process requires the collection of evidence of skills and application to a Registered Training Organisation (RTO). The RTO assesses the evidence and, if the applicant meets the requirements, they will receive recognition for the appropriate Units of Competency. Evidence can take many forms including Assessment in the workplace, examples of work, certificates / proof of completed training and Assessment reports, job descriptions or letters from employers. Most RTOs will generally charge a fee for skills recognition. What will the applicant receive?Skills recognition can count towards Statements of Attainment or full Qualifications. Statements of Attainment verify a person is competent in one or more Units of Competency. Statements of Attainment can themselves count towards a full Qualification. Should a person be recognised as competent in all the required Units of Competency that make up a Qualification they can be awarded that Qualification.
