Personal Requirements You should Environment Textile designers may work individually or as part of a team for a manufacturer. Some designers may establish their own small business offering specialist textiles design services or work as a consultant. Business success in textiles design, like all enterprises, depends as much on sales skills and customer service as on craft skills, and therefore some business skills training might be of benefit. There can also be considerable costs involved. Training Whilst you might become a textile designer without any formal training or qualifications, you usually have to complete a Diploma of Applied Fashion Design and Technology or a Degree in textile design. However, skills can be gained through a qualification in design studies that may be applied to textiles generally. Of course you can work at other occupations within this sector, and with further training and experience you can continue to progress along a career pathway that could see you working in a number of senior management positions.
