Training Package: Metal and Engineering

This qualification provides a comprehensive technical and theoretical base for working in the mechanical, mechatronic, manufacturing and maintenance fields at the para-professional level. It is designed to prepare people to work in technical occupations such as, project management engineering planning, mechanical engineering, fabrication design (cast, light or heavy), electrical and electronic engineering, mechatronics and robot design, production/plant engineering, and manufacturing systems engineering. It also provides suitable training for occupations in the marine sector and in quality assurance.

This program includes a broad knowledge base of theoretical and engineering science concepts that are transferred to practical applications. The course develops skills or knowledge in a specific area usually associated with employment in a particular job supporting other engineering professional staff. On successful completion of this course learners will be able to: demonstrate understanding of specialised knowledge with depth in some areas; analyse, diagnose, design and execute judgements across a broad range of technical/management functions; generate ideas through the analysis of information and concepts at an abstract level; and demonstrate wide-ranging, highly specialised technical/creative/conceptual skills.

Advanced Diploma

The Advanced Diploma (like the Diploma) prepares candidates for self-directed application of skills and knowledge based on fundamental principles and/or complex techniques. It recognises capacity for initiative and judgment across a broad range of technical and/or management functions. The Advanced Diploma is however, a more specialised qualification than the Diploma and signifies skill and knowledge of a greater complexity and a higher level of personal accountability. It is offered in both the VET and Higher Education sectors, by TAFE institutes, universities and private providers.
