Nanotech Engineer Make IT - Qualifications

Occupation Description

Nanotechnology is already being used all around us by many industries including manufacturing. Nanotech engineers use a combination of techniques from across the sciences, including physics, chemistry, biosciences, material science and engineering. Nanotech engineers design and manipulate structures at the atomic and subatomic level to create devices and materials of increased durability and efficiency. Nanotechnology is already widely used in the consumer electronics industry and the manufacture of products such as self-cleaning glass, stain resistant fabrics, solar controlled glass and UV protective coatings for plastics and polymers.

A nanotech engineer may…

  • observe and measure phenomena in the physical world, especially subatomic particles
  • propose theories and models to explain those phenomena
  • use computers to explore the consequences of those theories and models
  • create new ways of understanding observations that have been made, including through developing completely new approaches
  • use knowledge and-or technology developed from their work to develop new materials, products and processes for use in industry, medicine, defence and other areas of research and development
  • Personal Requirements

    You should

  • possess and aptitude for analysis and problem-solving
  • possess an aptitude for mathematics and computing
  • enjoy research
  • be able to visualise and explain ideas clearly
  • Environment

    Nanotech engineers may work independently or as a member of a team with other professionals. As well as nanotech engineer, nanotechnology occupations include computer scientists, microscopists, a nanotech engineers, and industrial chemist or a research scientist.

    To work as a nanotech engineer you will need to complete a Degree.
