Training Contract / Agreement
Training Contracts or Agreements
- Are legally binding agreements between the employer and the Australian Apprentice
- Protect the rights of both parties
- Outline the obligations of both parties including the Training Plan
The Training Plan
- Is negotiated between the employer, the Australian Apprentice and the RTO of choice
- Must specify the Australian Apprenticeship and level of qualification to be achieved
- Specifies the training to be delivered to the Australian Apprentice, both the on the job, by the employer, and the off the job by the RTO
- Must be endorsed by the Registered Training Organisation (RTO).

Pay and Conditions
As an apprentice or trainee…
- A person will probably be employed under and award or an Australian Workplace Agreement (AWA)
- They will usually be paid a training wage that reflects the stage that they are at in their apprenticeship or traineeship i.e. it increases incrementally each year
- The wage rates will depend upon the industry in which the Australian Apprentice is employed and their occupation
- It may also be dependant upon the State or Territory in which the Australian Apprentice is employed
- Their superannuation, workers' compensation and other entitlements will generally be the same as those of other employees
