CEO / General Manager Make IT - Qualifications

Occupation Description

Chief Executive Officers (CEO) and General Managers administer industrial and commercial organisations. In a small business they may do this on their own, and in a large organisation through a team of senior executives. Depending on the type of organisation, the CEO - General Manager will provide leadership for the achievement of either policy objectives, increased profit or market share.

CEO - General Managers may…

  • decide on the organisation's objectives, policies and programs and set standards and targets
  • assess the performance of the organisation and its activities
  • provide overall direction and management of the organisation's use of resources, including personnel, technology and physical assets such as buildings and plant
  • consult with staff and review their recommendations and reports
  • guide the preparation of reports, budgets and forecasts and present them to boards and other governing bodies
  • represent the organisation in negotiations, and at meetings, conventions and seminars, and liaise with other organisations
  • select or approve the selection of senior staff
  • authorise funds to implement policies and programs
  • Personal Requirements

  • Environment

    CEO - General Managers often work in an office environment. They may be required to travel to national or international destinations. CEO - General Managers work ‘regular' hours but are often required to work longer hours that may include evenings and weekends.

    Training

    You can work as a CEO - General Manager without formal qualifications. However, you will usually need some years of experience at a senior managerial level to enter this position.

    Entry to this occupation may be improved by completing an Advanced Diploma of Business Management or a Degree.
