How to get an Australian Apprenticeship
So, you know the apprenticeship or traineeship you want to do, so now you need to locate an employer who will give you a job.
  • Check the newspapers for job advertisements listed by industry, trade, occupation, apprenticeship, traineeship
  • Contact prospective employers by phone, in person or by letter
  • Group Training organisations employ apprentices and trainees and place them with different 'host' employers during their training and many specialise in particular industries or occupations
  • To find Group Training organisation use the National Training Information Service's Group Training Register

Pay and Conditions
As an apprentice or trainee…
  • You will probably be employed under an award or an Australian Workplace Agreement (AWA)
  • You will usually be paid a training wage that reflects the stage that you are at in your apprenticeship or traineeship i.e. it increases incrementally each year
  • The wage rates will depend upon the industry in which the Australian Apprentice is employed and their occupation
  • It may also be dependant upon the State or Territory in which the Australian Apprentice is employed
  • Your superannuation, workers' compensation and other entitlements will generally be the same as those of other employees
