Occupation Description Materials scientists study the properties and uses of materials such as non-metallic minerals and polymers and advise on the technical aspects of their manufacture and processing. Personal Requirements You should Environment Materials scientists frequently work closely with other professionals, pooling expertise on particular projects. They may work in production plants, in offices and outdoors. There is also the possibility for experienced materials scientists to become self-employed consultants. Training To become a materials scientist, you usually have to complete a Degree. Graduates may be eligible for membership of the Association of Professional Engineers, Scientists and Managers, Australia and-or The Institute of Materials Engineering Australasia Ltd.
