Occupational Types

Occupations in Manufacturing can generally be divided into four main types…

  • Production occupations are those that are making things or processing materials such as beds, boats, appliances, mineral products, paper plates, clothing and on it goes!
  • Trade occupations are those where people use a range of skills and knowledge to make, repair and maintain things, with jobs such as fitters, aircraft maintenance engineers, metal fabricators, welders, cabinet makers etc.
  • Technical occupations are those that involve things such as drafting and design, planning, quality, testing, scheduling and so on.
  • Management, Engineering & Other occupations are those that include managing people, processes and resources as well as higher levels of technical work including product and process design, process improvement, Lean and Agile Manufacturing, and product testing
