| Laboratory Assistant
Occupation Description Laboratory assistants undertake sampling and testing that requires the application of a broad range of technical skills and some scientific knowledge. Laboratory assistants assist engineers, technical officers and other laboratory staff by collecting and preparing samples, carrying out experiments, making measurements with scientific equipment, recording results and presenting results for critical analysis. They play an important role in manufacturing quality control. Laboratory assistants may… Personal Requirements You should Environment Laboratory assistants will work both ‘in the field', on the process - production line, and in the laboratory. They may work in a team or alone and because they may have to handle dangerous or hazardous materials, safety awareness and compliance with regulations is important. They must be aware of safety regulations and must wear supplied protective equipment. Training To work as a laboratory assistant you will usually require a Certificate III in Laboratory Skills. With experience, and possibly some further training, laboratory assistants can work in more technical and supervisory occupations such as technical assistant, technical officer and senior technical officer. Of course you can continue to progress further along a career pathway that could see you in a number of senior management positions.
